Frey, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, created her 'Camp Fire Girls' series when she was between the ages of twenty-four and twenty-eight. An interesting fact about the author is that, though fairly well-established, parts of her early life remain unknown and unrecorded and it has been speculated that there could be other undiscovered stories of hers in various magazines and newspapers.
