'The Daily Californian,' a UC Berkeley student-run newspaper still in existence today, was established in 1871 making it one of the oldest newspapers on the West Coast, and one of the oldest college newspapers in the United States. The current issue covers a variety of topics, some of which are: President Hoover's refusal to enter a discussion on the then Tariff Law which were to morph later into the Smoot-Hawley Tariff of 1930; a large article on the escalating tension between Russia and China; a college football editorial and coverage with a large photo of Ben Lom, a star halfback, who was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 1991; many others.
