Viktor Rydberg, a Swedish writer, journalist, and poet, has been described as "Sweden's last Romantic." He was also active in politics, supporting the Peasant's Party in 1870s and advocating for a language reform through elimination of foreign words. The original first edition of 'Roman Days' was published in 1877 after Rydberg's prolonged visit to Italy.
