Second edition with plans; 5 x 7 1/2; pp. [13], 4-105, [7] index and publisher's list; original green cloth over boards; gilt title; slight fading and some rubbing to spine; very faint foxing to first several pages only; most pages unopened; large fold-out with 5 separate plans of the Royal Public and Private Baths, the Grand Pump Room, etc. (small cut to edge of lower fold-line); engraved lettrines at beginning of chapters; overall very good. There has been archaeological evidence that humans have been utilizing the natural hot springs around which Bath, England was established since about 8000 B.C. The book comprises part history and part manual - specifically focusing not only on the benefits of the mineral water, but also on the health risks incurred through improper use of the springs.
