Gaspard de Saunier [1663 - 1748] dedicated this work to his father Jean de Saunier, a great French horseman who died in the early 18th centuryand, like his son later, worked in the Royal Stables. The son, after an eventful live, came to live in Holland and founded the famous Equestrian Academy at Leiden. An English translation was published in 1743 as the 3d part of Cavendish’s "General System of Horsemanship". A German edition was published in 1767. A complete, wide-margined, copy of this sumptuous work in very good condition.
