Description: Second edition of an important and influential work on garden-design & landscape architecture (the first ed. was publ. in 1820). The author Gabriel Thouin (1747-1829) was a French landscape gardener who developed a system of classification of gardens by type and by design. The four main categories are botanical (or pharmaceutical) gardens, fruit gardens, vegetable gardens & pleasure gardens. The beautiful lithographed plates depict a variety of designs (i.a. for Chinese & English gardens which were in vogue at the time) surrounded by views of various garden-buildings (i.a.
