But complete set (36 issues) of this rare magazine (not available in Dutch libraries) that has been very influential for the so called l'Art Nouveau. Each issue has 8 to 10 separate gold edged plates, sometimes folded, sometimes in colour. Numerous illustrations in black and white in the text. There should be 338 separate plates. This set has 325 lettered plates and 4 others. With contributions of Théodore Duret, Edmond de Goncourt, Hayashi, Louis Gonse, Philippe Burthy and illustrations of works of Hokusai , Toyokuni , Outamaro , Harunobou, Kouniyoshi , Sosen, Shunyei, Motonobou and many others. Samuel Bing was an art critic and a dealer in Chinese and Japanese art. His shop in Paris was a prestigious Salon de L'Art Nouveau and had great influence on the The Hague Gallery Arts and Crafts. The Belgian artist and designer Henry van de Velde (1863-1957) played an important role in both galleries and was a key figure in several overlapping circles of artists and art lovers in The Hague and Paris. One of Van de Velde's friends was Johan Thorn Prikker (1868-1932), a number of whose works had been featured in Bing's gallery.
