Description: Paris Treuttel et Würtz (1810) Large in-4°, 12 pp. and 40 etched and aquatint plates. Some foxing and some marginal waterstains. Contemporary binding: half calf, ribbed back with gilt fleurons and gilt title. Back faded ¶ The ornamental decorations were first issued in 1785 and made popular through the work of Clerisseau and Belanger. They were inspired by the Antiquity of Herculaneum, the grotesques of Raphael and designs on ancient Roman palaces and villas. The first twenty plates are after Lavallée-Poussin who had been staying in Rome during fifteen years. The others were drawn by Voisin, Le Clerc, Berthelot, de Claire and L. Janneret.
