Shanghai Museum - Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum

Title: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum
Description: Shanghai. Shanghai Museum. 2006. First edition. Quarto. Softcover. New. 194 Pages, profusely illustrated in colour, text in Chinese and English. This Palace Museum collection is divided into four catergories: treasures, timepieces, costumes and "the studio of the three rarities," which includes objects associated with imperial scholars. The most dominant section is that of the palace's "treasures", herein defined as objects made of precious materials such as gold, silver, jade, pearl and rhinoceros horn. The majority of these valuable artifacts were produced in Qing imperial factories and were collected by the imperial court. Many of the items were also in daily use by the Qing royalty themselves, giving the modern observer a closer look into the lives inside the palace walls.
