This is the most elaborate treatise of Chinese porcelain printed in the 19th century. Jacquemart and Le Blant made it their goal to classify the various types of porcelain, in particular the Chinese porcelains. To this day the terms such as Famille Verte, Rose, Noire, Blanc de Chine, Poudre Bleu, Email sur Biscuit are still used. The 28 engraved plates show a wonderful variety of Chinese porcelains, most of which were produced for the European market. Also Japanese wares are extensively described and illustrated. Among one of the most fascinating illustrations is a plate of a jar with Cornelis Pronks decoration of the Doctor's Visit. It is the earliest known depiction of a Pronk porcelain item. A true must for any serious collector!.
