Following in the footsteps of his father Aaron Healy (1814-1896), Aaron Augustus Healy, was an art collector and leather merchant. Healy was a special partner in the firm A Olivotti & Co (dealers of Italian Antiquities), and President of the Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences (25 years). During his lifetime, Healy gave 37 works of art to the Brooklyn Institute of Art and left them a choice of 20 paintings from his estate. Healy's collection included work by, among others, J H Twachtma, Rubens, William Maris, Troyon, Vollon, Josef Israiel, Eugene Delecroix, and Juliet Thompson. Healy was married twice, his first wife, Miss Elizabeth Bradley (d. 1912) of Washington D.C., in 1875, and in 1915 to Marry Theodosia Currier who died in 1940, St. Petersberg Florida, near her summer home, of an accidental drowning. He was a member of the Century, Rembrandt, Hamilton, City and National Arts Clubs.
