A self-published book with a limited publication run. Written by Jean Sahme and Jennifer Brennan French. Included are excellent photographs of her art and pottery and a full and interesting narrative of the way that she forms a pot from beginning to end, even including gathering the clay from the hills, curing it, forming it, firing it, designing it etc. A very well thought out and beautiful book for the true Tewa pottery collector and admirer. Jean Sahme b. 1948 is a fourth generation descendant of Nqampeyo of the First Mesa Hopi-Tewa clan. She began pottery making in her 20's following in the footsteps of her ancestors. The majority of her family are also potters. She is nationally known and her work is shown in national galleries and museums. Her designs follow the very traditional design lines of her ancestors' pottery. Many of her designs have a spiritual balance combining vivid beauty and fantastic individual artistry. She uses traditional designs such as the migration pattern, the butterfly and the rain clouds and soars with them. ; Color Photographs; Oblong 8vo 8" to 9" tall; 54 pages. Very Good .
