Benson was a member of "The Ten", a group of 10 American painters who first exhibited together in 1898, in New York City, and continued to do so for the next 20 years. They were Frank Weston Benson, Joseph DeCamp, Thomas Wilmer Dewing, Childe Hassam, Willard Metcalf, Robert Reid, Edward Simmons, Edmund Charles Tarbell, John Henry Twachtmann, and J. Alden Weir.
