The first 79 pages have European page numbers on the left hand page and Nepali numbers on the right hand side which gives a total of 158 pages. Then follow pages 80-83. the total number of pages is 162. Shelf wear on covers but altogether a sound copy. Old name on front endpaper "F. Harrison Hargrave 3rd Q.A.O. Gurkha Rifles". Rare book on the language of Nepal. Historically, the language was first called Khaskura (language of the khas 'rice farmers'), then Gorkhali or Gurkhali (language of the Gurkha) before the term Nepali was taken from Newari. Other names include Parbatiya ("mountain language", identified with the Parbatiya people of Nepal) and Lhotshammikha. There are about 17 million speakers worldwide. It is spoken by about 35% of the population of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley. Good.
