Book, Vol. I published 1834, Vol. II published 1836. 498 and 683 pages. additions and corrections leaf at the end of volume 2. Has the coats of arms of the liveries and some other illustrations like their halls etc. Ex-library copies with the usual markings, a few pages are soiled. A page with the "Charters and Grants" in volume one is deatched and creased. Rare first edition. Volume one published in 1834, volume two in 1836. The complete title reads:"The History of the Twelve Great Livery COmpanies of London principally compiled from their grants & records with an historical essay and Accounts of each company its origin, constitution, government, dress, customs, halls and trust estates and charities including notices & illustrations of metropolitan trade and commerce as originally concentrated in their societies and of the language, manners and expenses of ancient times. With attested copies and translations of the Companies' charters." The twelve companies are the Mercers, the Grocers, the Drapers, the Fishmongers, the Goldsmiths, the Skinners, the Merchant Tailors, the Haberdashers, the Salters, the Ironmongers, the Vintners and the Clothworkers.
