Description: London, Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner. 1894, First English Edition. Soft cover, 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book, xiv, 111 pages, 2 b/w plates, 1 text illustration. Lacking the original wrappers, now in plain new card covers. Repairs to tears on title page. This copy includes a certificate from the New Zealand Department of Agriculture (Veterinary Division) dated 17 December 1903. The certificate lists "Cattle Slaughtered by the Rev. Van Stavern: between 4 and 16 December 1903. It lists the times from roping the horns and hind legs to throat cutting. Rabbi Herman van Staveren (1849-1930) was a senior Rabbi of the Jewish community in New Zealand. There is also part of a paper with the author and title of the book and the address "Mr J Bernstein, Jewish Rabbi Christchurch". Good.
