Carter the gift of her dear Papa on leaving new Zealand Jan 12th 1863" (Charles Rooking Carter [1822-1896] to his daughter Jane Caroline Carter [1851-1870]). C.R. Carter was an early pioneer in the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Carterton is named after him, also the Carter Observatory in Wellington. Good.
