Description: Special Limited Facsimile Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. xxxii, 242, (1); marbled endpapers, portrait frontispiece, 3 full page coloured plates, 4 full page b/w. plates, bound in full red leather, raised bands, title lettered in gilt on spine, gilt stamped decoration to spine and boards, all edges gilt, original silk page marker, fine copy. Together with the publishers 28 page booklet titled "Notes From The Editor". Birmingham, Alabama; The Classics of Medicine Library / Gryphon Editions; 1983. The printing was prepared from the first edition of 1868. Addison's papers are small in number, but are rich in original contributions to medicine. Credit may appropriately be given to Addison as the founder of endocrinology, since he was the first to show that a diseased condition could result from a defective ductless gland. However, he is most remembered for his discovery of two diseases, both of which bear his name, "Addison's Anaemia," and "Addison's Disease."
