This prose romance, originally printed about 1518-19, and reproduced here from the only version in English, and the only extant version in prose, of a well-known legend. Mary of Nimmegen is a sort of female Faustus who sells her soul for the freedom to indulge the lust of the flesh. An example of Renaissance moral teaching spiced with examples drawn from the frailty of human nature.
