Description: Cr. 8vo; pp (the volumes vary between 50 pages and 150 pages in the later numbers), numerous illustrations, each volume with its own stapled pictorial wrapper, some wrappers worn and some staples rusted, but over all the collection is in good condition. Together with Ian F. McLaren's "Whitcombe's Story Books - A Trans-Tasman Survey" limited edition of 250 copies. Christchurch/Melbourne; Whitcombe And tombs Ltd.; ( 1908 - 1962 ) Whitcombe & Tombs Ltd. developed the series "Whitcombe's Story Books" (1908 - 62 ) with 666 titles - the largest children's book series in the world. They used a wide aray of authors including many Australian and New Zealand ones such as Mary Grant Bruce, Edith Annie Howes, Aileen L. Burrow, A. R. Osborn, Isabel Maud Peacocke, Charles Barrett, John Finnemore, Aileen L. Burrow, Tarlton Rayment, Edward S. Sorenson, etc, as well as a number of local illustrators.
