Title: Form of Licence to Search for Oil. Pursuant to "The Mining Act Amendment Act, 1900," I hereby grant to Albert Ephrain Knight of Mount Gambier, Boulder licence and authority to search and Mine the Mineral Lands, being situate in the Hundred of Mayurra containing two square miles for Oil Subject to the Provisions of the said Act and the Mining Regulations for the time being in force, so far as the same are applicable. This Licence is to remain in force for twelve calendar months from the date hereof, unless forfeited or determined in the meantime. Dated the 16th day of May 1924. Licence No. 79 South Australia. Second Schedule Book No. 36. Fee £2 Paid.
Description: Oblong 8vo one sided sheet, light wear to edges, a good copy. Adelaide, R. E. E. Rogers, Government Printer, c.1924. The Australian colonial governments created a revenue generating system by forcing each gold digger to buy a licence or miner's right. This revenue was then used to police the goldfields, supposedly to reinforce law and order.
