Description: New York: John Polhemus, Publisher, 1883. 1st Printing. Blue printed wrappers, stapled. Front wrapper verso lists the various individual's names of the General Committee charged with the preparations of the centennial; this included members from the Common Council, Chamber of Commerce & the New York Historical Society. Pamphlet now housed in an archival mylar sleeve. 12 pp. Programme: Broadsheet, printed in two columns, folded twice. The Programme gives the names of the organizations & members participating, including a large representation from Ireland, also mentioned in the pamphlet. Map, "showing the points of interest along the route in 1783. The Water Line as it then existed in the lower part of the City, will be readily observed. The exact locations of the Taverns and other Land Marks mentioned in the following pages, are carefully indicated.", p. 1. Pamphlet: 9-3/16" x 5-3/4". Broadsheet: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" (folded); 17" x 10-7/8". Age-toning at top of pamphlet. Prior owner [Geo. Brush, M.D. / U. S. Navy] to front wraper & p.1. Faint vertical fold line. Overall, Very Good. Evacuation Day marks the date in 1783 when the British Army departed from New York City on Manhattan Island, after the end of the American Revolutionary War. Somewhat uncommon in the trade, we see no others at the time of cataloguing.
