Paul Alvin had a companion that he bought along with him on his lecture circuits, his name was Herman Beck. He used Herman as a "horrid example of the RAVAGES OF DRINK". He eventually passed away and Paul was writing Murray Marvin to see if he "would accompany [him] on [his] Spring Tour to take poor Herman's place. Overall a strange letter from a prominent lecturer of the temperance movement!.
