"'Butchers' Day' is the Independence Day of the wholesale and retail meat dealers of San Francisco, Oakland and Alameda. It commemorates the time when the butchers, acting in self-defense, organized a 'Butchers' Board of Trade.' They had been threatened by the big Baden combine..
