[Bonaparte, Napoleon]. Bourrienne, Louis Antoine Fauvelet de [1769 - 1834] - MEMOIRS Of NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. To Which Are Now First Added, An Account of the Important Events of the Hundred Days, of Napoleon's Surrender to the English, and of his Residence and Death at St. Helena

Title: MEMOIRS Of NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. To Which Are Now First Added, An Account of the Important Events of the Hundred Days, of Napoleon's Surrender to the English, and of his Residence and Death at St. Helena
Description: London: Richard Bentley, 1836. 1st edition thus, with much additional material - and illustrations - not in the First Edition in English, published in London, 1830. Original publisher's reddish-brown cloth with gilt stamped title lettering to spine. Pale yellow eps. 4 volumes (xxi, [1], 392; xii, [2 (advert)], 404; viii, 400; iv, 419, [1 (List of Plates)] pp). Frontispiece in each volume, a folding plan, one facsimile & 22 portraits/plates. 8vo. 9" x 5-5/8". Spines sunned to a golden brown. The usual bit of foxing. Period bookplate. A pleasing VG+ set. Bourrienne attended military school in Brienne with Napoleon, spent time in Paris with him during 1792, and formally entered Napoleon's service in 1795. Bourrienne's veracity has long been questioned, so historians are dubious about portions of this memoir, but that being said, they nevertheless remain a valuable account of Bonaparte's life, by one who was there from the start.
