Youmans, E. L. , Ed. - The Popular Science Monthly (No. Xii, April 1873).

Title: The Popular Science Monthly (No. Xii, April 1873).
Description: NY. NY: D. Appleton & Company, 1873. 1st Edition. Softcover. Very early issue of Popular Science Monthly (PSM) in original wraps. Includes 10 pages of ads. Sewn binding. Card covers are soiled, pages and binding are in very good shape with a few dog-eared pages. Paper covers are brittle. PSM was at this time written by prominent and upcoming social and physical scientists. This issue includes 15 articles. Herbert Spencer's article in this issue, "The Study of Sociology -- The Bias of Patriatism," predates the publication of his book The Study of Sociology later in 1873, and thus is an earlier treatment of the ideas presented there. Other articles in this issue include the lead article on the cultivation of science, the Nebular Hypothesis by John le Conte, applied sanitary science, the transfusion of blood, and the cave-dwellers of France, among others. Several articles are illustrated with line drawings. The articles are not reprints. They are original articles written expressly for PSM. The issue concludes with several short notes and book reviews. 8vo - 8" to 9" tall. 134 pages. T4. Good+ with no dust jacket.
