Mild foxing to first and last few pp., including (half) title, minimal wear at top spine and upper (calf inforced) corners. Highly attractive, scarce set in this near fine early edition. ¶ With this novel, George Eliot's reputation reached its summit and it is generally considered as one of the greatest works of English literature. The first edition was published in 1871-72, and our set is to be considered as the 2nd edition (bearing tiny booksellers/publisher's label of Eland & Exeter in the left upper corner of each volume's front endpaper).
