Contemporay full brown calf with gilt spine on five raised bands, engraved allegorical frontispiece by Jan Punt, titlepage in red and black and with small woodengraving, (14), 578, (48)pp. Ca. 20 x 11,5 cm.Posthumously and anonymously work (by Lieven Ferdinand de Beaufort, a governor of Zeeland, Fort St.-Anna near Hulst, 1675 - Middelburg, 1730) of Anti-Orangist tendency. It gave rise to a vehement discussion through the medium of pamphlets pro and contra i.a. the famous "Jagt- en Schuitepraatjes"; he also was "pensionaris" at Sluis, 1701-1711; in 1710 he married (for the second time) his niece Maria de Beaufort at Hengstdijk. Very clear engraving; downer corners a little bumped; good copy!
