Description: London, British Ornithologists' Union, 1927. 8vo (22.6 x 14.5 cm). 213 pp.; eight plates (numbered I-VIII) and one larger, folded, full colour map (numbered IX). Slightly later full cloth. Gilt title on the spine. Original printed wrappers bound in. = Hachisuka's copy. This is the Supplementary Number to the 12th series, volume III. Most plates are double-sized panorama views of characteristic landscapes and habitats. David Armitage Bannerman (1886-1979) is best-known for his monographs of the Birds of the British islands, Tropical West Africa, Cyprus, etc., etc. Uncut. The plate numbered VIII is placed before VII, as always. Provenance: Front wrapper inscribed Mas Hachisuka, i.e., the zoologist, (chiefly ornithologist) Marquess Masauji Hachisuka (1903-1953), who is remembered best as the author of "The Dodo and kindred birds or the extinct birds of the Mascarene Islands", his magnum opus, published shortly after his early death. Uncommon. The provenance makes this copy unique.
