Title: Die träge Masse und das Relativitätsprinzip.
Description: Leipzig, Ambrosius Barth, 1909. 8vo (22.0 x 14.6 cm). 14 pp. [571-584]; two text figures. Original printed wrappers. = A rare offprint of a work by the German physicist, mathematician and Nobel laureate Max Born (1882-1970). "[He] was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. He also made contributions to solid-state physics and optics and supervised the work of a number of notable physicists in the 1920s and 1930s. Born won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics for his fundamental research in quantum mechanics" (Wikipedia). This is one of his earliest works on quantum physics. It predates his Die Theorie des starren Körpers in der Kinematik des Relativitätsprinzips, published in Annalen der Physik, Band 30, and deals more specifically with the Abraham-Sommerfeld theory. Offprint dated 12.3.09 in the lower margin of the front wrapper. Slight wear to wrapper edges including a tiny chip, small smudge on rear wrapper, faint pencilled marginalia on p. 576; otherwise a very good, clean copy.
