Original, uniform pictorial wrappers. = A rarely seen complete volume of a series initiated, published, edited and largely written by the French author, art critic, and historian Jean Philibert Berjeau (1809-1891). Berjeau lived in exile after Napoleon III overthrew the second French Republic. His son, Philibert Charles Berjeau (1845-1927) became a natural history illustrator and lithographer. Uncut and with all the printed wrappers still intact. With this fourth volume, a "New Series" started, which is, according to the editor, "...in a much better style of typography than the first three volumes already published. The circulation is still strictly limited to 250 copies." (text on rear wrappers).
