Title: Catalogue of the Madreporian Corals in the British Museum (Nat. Hist.). II-VII.
Description: London, The Trustees of the British Museum, 1895-1928. Six (of seven) volumes in six. 4to (32.0 x 24.0 cm). 1,303 pp. [xi, 212; iv, 106; vii, 192; viii, 206; vii, 303; vi, 173; v, 288]; 206 mostly tissue-guarded lithographed plates [33, 34, 14, 35, 17, 72], including collotypes and photographs, several text figures. Original uniform blind-stamped brown cloth with gilt title on the spines. Yellow endpapers. = An important basic monograph on the madrepores, including over 1,100 different species of these often spectacular corals. Started by the British zoologist George Brooks (1857-1893) (his contribution not included), and continued (volume two onwards) by Henry Meyners Bernard (1853-1909), except the last, much later published volume (not recorded by Nissen), which was written by the Indian zoologist George Matthai (1887-1947). The illustrations are excellent. Spines a bit frayed and with tears; first three volumes with stamps in plate margins, the others clean, unmarked. A very good set. Nissen ZBI, 597 (under Brook).
