Title: Les formations sédimentaires du Crétacé supérieur et du Tertiaire de Patagonie avec un parallèle entre leurs faunes mammalogiques et celles de l'ancien continent.
Description: Buenos Aires, Museo Nacional de Buenos Aires, 1906. 4to (27.1 x 18.2 cm). [i], 568 pp., two folded plates, one very large, multi-folded leaf with profiles. Later dark blue buckram. Gilt title on the spine. = Rare dedicated copy by this famous Argentine palaeontologist and vertebrate zoologist Florentino Ameghino (1853-1911). "From 1887 until his death, Ameghino was passionately devoted to the study of fossil mammals from Patagonia, with the valuable support of his brother Carlos Ameghino (1865-1936) who, between 1887 and 1902, made 14 trips to that region, where he discovered and collected numerous fossil faunas and made important stratigraphic observations" (Wikipedia). Published in the museum's Anales, as the complete volume 15. With a handwritten dedication by the author to the French palaeontologist and anthropologist, Prof. [Pierre] Marcellin Boule (1861-1942). "Boule was a professor at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (1902-36) and 'for many years director of the Institut de Paléontologie Humaine, Paris.' He was an editor (1893-1940) of the journal L’Anthropologie (and contributed articles to it) and was the founder of two other scientific journals. Boule studied and published in 1910 the first analysis of a complete Neanderthal specimen" (Wikipedia). Pictorial bookplate of the Australian palaeontologist and malacologist Jeffrey Darl Stilwell on the front pastedown. Blindstamps to the margin of the first blank and title; first and last few leaves marginally toned, otherwise an excellent, clean copy. Cat. BM(NH) Supplement p. 18.
