Title: Atlas d'histoire naturelle ou collection de tableaux relatifs aux trois regnes de la Nature et a l'usage de ceux qui professent et étudient cette science.
Description: Paris, Baudoin, An XI (1803). Folio (32.5 x 26.0 cm). 43 pp.; 38 folded tables. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt ornaments and black morocco label with gilt title. = Rare work, written by Abbé Charles Chaisneau (1751-1830) on the order and systematics of the three kingdoms of nature, viz. the animal kingdom, the plants, and the minerals. A few years later, the author had the same work published again with a slightly different title. Both editions are rare. The "Avis au Relieur" states that the work should contain 38 tableaux, namely one general, 12 (including two bis plates) in zoology in which the author follows the classification of Buffon, Daubenton, de Lacepede, de Reaumur, Geoffroy St. Hilaire, d'Olivier, and others, and including separate tables for the birds, the herpetology, the molluscs, insects, etc.; 11 for the botany (including one bis plate), and 14 with the mineralogy. All are present. Boards rubbed at extremities, spine cover nearly complely perished. Two small, washed, library stamps on the title page, and an old signature. Some light foxing in the text and in the margins of the tables, otherwise a very good, clean, complete copy. This edition is not cited in any standard work on natural history nor in the cat. BM(NH).
