Two parts in two. 8vo (24.0 x 16.1 cm). 379 pp. [xx, 204; xiii, 142]; numerous fine photographs (unnumbered plates with blank versos) of remarkable trees. Original, near uniform pictorial wrappers. = A seldom-seen work on Swiss trees. The Vaud Canton is situated in the west of Switserland, with Lausanne as its capital. On the south side it borders Lac léman, and it's highest point is the Alpine mountain massif les Diablerets ("the abode of devils"). The first volume is in second edition; the second in first edition. All are rare. The trees photographed are truly majestic. Their localities, owners, altitude, height and with are recorded. Inscribed by a former owner, the Swiss forester Max Oechslin (1893-1979), in the top margin of the title page, and with his stamp in the inner margin of the same, as well as with his library label "Für den ehrlichen Leser bedeutet ein Buch ein Leben...", mounted on the half title verso. Very good, complete, and with an interesting provenance.
