Description: Washington, DC, Smithsonian Institution, 1917-1938. Six papers in one. 8vo (22.3 x 15.0 cm). 278 pp. [47;22;5;14;29;161]; 69 plates and maps, including one in full colour [22;8;2;4;6;27]. Green buckram with gilt title "Biology of Philippines. Land Shells". Original printed wrappers bound in. = Important contributions to the knowledge of the distribution and speciation in several groups of Philippine land shells. Bartsch included descriptions of new species and subspecies, as well as distribution maps. Some papers belong to the scarcest titles in the series United States Museum Bulletin. This is all that has been written by Paul Bartsch on Philippine molluscs. The rather short but well-illustrated paper on shipworms is the only one on marine species. Provenances: the first paper with a stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto, and front wrapper; the fifth front wrapper with a small stamp of "Horace Gunthorp Scientific Literature San Diego, California", and the San Diego Natural History Society; the sixt with a stamp of an agricultural institution in Texas, and punch holes in the left margin (hardly visible). Otherwise a very good, clean copy.
