Description: New York, NY, The Lyceum of Natural History, 1852. 8vo (21.0 x 14.0 cm). 321, [1] pp. Later black half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with four raised, gilt-lined bands and gilt title. Greenish endpapers; speckled edges. = Charles Baker Adams's largest and most important paper. It is the first paper entirely on the Mollusca of the Pacific side of Panama, their localities ("habitats") and habitats ("stations"). It contains the descriptions, in English, of 517 species, many of which are new. In English, but pages 304-324, titled: "Specierum novarum conchyliorum, in sinu panamensi repertorum, synopsis", contain additional Latin descriptions of all the new species. Published in the Lyceum's Annals, but this is the repaginated offprint. Provenance: a stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the title. Nicely bound. A few spots, mainly on the title, but generally exceptionally clean. Very uncommon.
