Description: Amsterdam, Johannes Müller, 1880-1882. 4to (27.8 x 22.6 cm). 97 [24; 73] pp.; two lithographed plates (one coloured), map. Later brown buckram with gilt title on the spine. Original printed front board (to the first part) and front wrapper (to the second) bound in. = Two seldom-seen contributions to the volcanology of Indonesia, although the first part also deals with various mineral previously collected by the famous naturalist and geologist Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn (1809-1864). Written by the Dutch geologist of German descent, Theodor Heinrich Behrens (1842-1905) and published with the help of the "Königliche Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Amsterdam" (i.e. the Koninklijke Akademie der Wetenschappen, or Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences. Bound for the Museum of Comparative Zoology (Harvard), with their bookplate and cancellation stamp on the front pastedown, and a different older bookplate on the rear of the (first) original board. Vague blindstamp in first title; old repairs to the wrapper of the second part, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
