Description: Haarlem, De Erven F. Bohn, 1902-1907. Four volumes in four. Large 8vo (25.4 x 16.1 cm). Three title pages; 2346 pp. [1(1902: (ii), 586; 2(1904) 570; 3[1905]: 598; 4(1907): (ii), 586]; 56[24;10;9;13] plates (several larger, some coloured); numerous text figures. Floral endpapers. = A seldom seen complete set of anatomical works, published in the series Petrus Camper, named after and honouring the foremost 18th-century (1722-1789) Dutch anatomist. Contributions are mostly in German or French, and often well-illustrated. Chief subject is the anatomy of vertebrates, with primates being most prominent. With the peculiar, small bookplate of the first editor (and major contributor), Louis Bolk (1866-1930), and a cancelled stamp of a Dutch scientific institute on the title pages, except in volume 3, which does not have a title page; therefore with the bookplate and stamp in the top margin of the page 1. Slight wear to the boards; label removed from spines, binding of the fourth volume a trifle weak, otherwise very good.
