Description: London, John Murray, 1882. Large 8vo (25.0 x 15.3 cm). [x], x, 269 pp.; engraved frontispiece, one coloured folding map, ten engraved plates (one larger, folded and partly coloured, another partly coloured) and several text illustrations. Original blind stamped bright blue cloth with gilt title on the spine. Brown endpapers. = A rather rare, well-illustrated work by the British map curator to the Royal Geographical Society, and instructor in practical astronomy, John Coles (1833-1910), based on the author's journey in 1881. Bookplate (prize book, dated July 1914) on the front pastedown, hinges weak; a few light pencil underlinings; the very large map has a tape repair in the wide left margin, and along two folds Otherwise a very good, clean copy.
