Title: The flora sylvatica for southern India: Containing quarto plates of all the principal timber trees in southern India and Ceylon, accompanied by a botanical manual, with descriptions of every known tree and shrub, and an analysis of every genus not figured in the plates. Volume I-III [Complete].
Description: Madras (1869-1874) [REPRINT New Delhi, Periodical Expert Book Agency, 1978]. Three volumes in three. Large 4to. [I: xx, ii, lvii; iv; II: lviii-cxxiv; III: cxxxv-ccxxxviii, xiv, xiv, viii] pp.; 359 [I-CXX; CXXI-CCXL; CCXLI-CCCXXX] engraved plates with species, and 29 plates with a review of the genera, for a total of 388 plates. Publisher's uniform pictorial cloth. = The original work by the British botanist and zoologist (in particular malacologist and herpetologist) Richard Henry Beddome (1830-1911) is very rare, and copies are often in a bad state. This is a decent reprint. Well-illustrated. The page and plate numbering is complicated. One signature in the index of vol. III bound upside down (easily corrected). A very good, clean set. Stafleu and Cowan, 393.
