Original printed front wrapper. = Important contribution to the freshwater fishes of Italy by the biologist and Darwinist (he was the translator of DFarwin's work into Italian) Giovanni Canestrini (1835-1900). The descriptions are detailed and variability is expressed in many tables. The plate shows species of Gobius (the male, female and juvenile of G. punctatissimus, an Italian endeme described by Canestrini), Alburnus, and Cobitis. Light spotting throughout, no rear wrapper, otherwise a very good, unmarked, copy. Dean I, p. 213.
