Title: The angler's assistant: comprising practical directions for bottom-fishing, trolling, &c. with ample instructions for the preparation & use of tackle and baits; a descriptive account of the habits and haunts of fish, and a geographical and ichthyological account of the principal rivers & streams in England.
Description: London, George Routledge, 1852. 8vo (17.0 x 10.7 cm). viii, 153 pp.; finely hand-coloured lithographed frontispiece, numerous steel-engravings. Publisher's embossed cloth. Gilt title and vignette on the spine and front board: "Carpenter's angler". = Also know under the short title "Carpenter's angler", printed on the front board, this surely is one of the better pocket guides for anglers in the mid-19th century. Especially the numerous text engravings are quite good. This is the second edition, the first, published in 1848, lacks the full colour frontispiece. Small private owner's bookplate on the front paste-down, a few smudges on the front board, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Westwood & Satchell, p. 50.
