Title: Voyage de "La Manche" a l'Ile Jan-Mayen et au Spitzberg (juillet-aout 1892).
Description: Paris, Ernest Leroux, 1892. 8vo (23.9 x 15.5 cm). 263 pp. 30 text figures, 24 plates including (chromo-)lithographed and collotypes. Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with five raised bands and gilt title. = This is the complete narrative and scientific results of a French expedition to the Northern Atlantic and Arctic Ocean. Leader of the expedition and captain of the "Manche", was admiral Amédée Pierre Léonard Bienaimé (1843-1930), who wrote the narrative. E. Trouessart was responsible for the detailed paper on the terrestrial and marine acari collected during the voyage, which includes new species. A chromolithographed plate shows plankton, most photos are of landscapes, and geomorphogical features. There are several detailed maps, including one that is tinted, as is the frontispiece. Contained in the Nouvelles archives des Missions Scientifiques, Volume 5, together with a much smaller, unrelated paper. Old library stamp on the title and front free endpaper, on the latter also a hand-written label stating that this copy was donated by the French marine biologist and malacologist Louis Marie Adolphe Olivier Édouard Joubin (1861-1935). A very good copy. Not in Nissen.
