Description: Wien, Adolph Holzhausen, 1882. 4to (23.5 x 18.5 cm). xi, 309 pp., three large folded maps (one tinted, one coloured, one in full colour, loosely inserted), and one large folded sheet with full colour profiles. = A detailed work by the Austran geologist and palaeontologist Alexander Bittner (1850-1902) on the geology of a part of lower Austria, near Wiener-Neustadt. It includes a list of the fossils (mainly molluscs) known from the Gosauschichten der Wiener-Neustädter Kalkalpen (limestone alps). The Übersichtskarte is tinted in brown, but a full-colour version of the same map, folded and mounted on linen, is added. It is the Geologische-Karte nach den Detailaufnahmen der Mittglieder der k.k.geologischen Reichsanstalt J. Czizek, D. Stur, L. Hertle und A. Bittner (printed tekst pasted on the map verso). Both the map and the title page have the small stamp of the Austrian geologist Dr. G. A. von Arthaber (1864-1943), once an assistant of Bittner. On the front free endpaper is written "Edith", viz., the Austrian geologist Edith Kristan-Tollmann (1934-1995), a very competent geologist, however, later coauthor, with her husband Alexander, of some nutty geoscience books such as "Und die Sintflut gab es doch. Vom Mythos zur historischen Wahrheit" and "Das Weltenjahr geht zur Neige". Added is the original 1961 invoice from the Zentral-Antiquariat in Leipzig. Boards and spine cover rubbed, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
