Red morocco label with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. = Rare edition of this comprehensive work on "useful" insects, including bees, silkworms, etc., by the naturalist Pierre Joseph Buc'hoz (1731-1807). The first edition of 1781 was published anonymously. This is probably the third edition (second: 1782) with a few more pages than the first. However, there are no specific records for this edition in Hagen or Horn-Schenkling. A total of six editions were published up to 1808. All are rare. Three text leaves with a horizontal tear, otherwise a very good clean copy in an attractive binding. Hagen I, p. 99; Horn-Schenkling, 2757.
