Description: Rio de Janeiro, Leuzinger, "1893" [1894]. Large 4to (26.1 x 18.8 cm). 361 pp., 13 tissue-guarded photographic plates. Contemporary red buckram. Gilt title on the spine. = A well-illustrated work by the Brazilian botanist and director of the botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro, João Barbosa Rodrigues (1842-1909). The genera Barbosa, Barbosella, Barbrodria, and Brodriguesia are all named after him The Brazilian botanical journal Rodriguésia is also named after him (Wikipedia). This work includes the description and illustration of several palm species. The title page is dated 1893, but according to the British Museum catalogue it was published in 1894. Tissue-guards with printed explanatory text. Spine sunned, pages a bit age-toned, a few a bit shorter at the foot; tissue guards somewhat spotted, one text leaf with a chip in the lower outer margin, and the next with an old paper repair. Otherwise a very good copy, with clean plates. Rare. Cat. BM(NH), p. 97. Not in Stafleu and Cowan.
