Original red, grained boards with gilt dentelles and gilt title on the spine. = Rare early thesis on trilobites (perhaps the first on this subject) by the German zoologist and trilobite specialist Hermann Friedrich Emmrich (1815-1879), with the inclusion of several new species. In an elegant, contemporary binding. With the bookplate of the British writer Muriel Agnes Arber (1913-2004) on the front paste-down, her signature "from D.S.R", dated 1936, and John Thackray's autographed note "from M. A. A." and dated 1992. Above these a 19th-century signature. Spine head and foot chipped, a bit foxed throughout, otherwise a very good copy. Cat. BM(NH), p. 526.
