Black endpapers. = An uncommon work, written by Robert Etheridge (1819-1903), an English geologist, palaeontologist, botanist and assistent to the Anatomist and Darwinist Thomas Henry Huxley. From the preface: "In order to convey some idea of the importance that attaches to the history and determination and numerous indexes of the species, which illustrate the succession of life in the Rocks comprising the stratigraphical or sedimentary strata in the British Islands, I may mention that nearly 18.000 extinct species have been described, and in a great part figured". Spine cover worn, partly torn; library stamp on title; very mild foxing to the last few index leaves; otherwise a very good copy.
