Publisher's blue buckram with gilt title on the spine. = First English translation of a seminal work on birth migration first published in French. Written by Jean Dorst (1924-2001). With a foreword by the American ornithologist and bird illustrator Roger Tory Peterson (1908-1996). Provenance: with a handwritten dedication by the author on the front free endpaper recto, to Madame Monica, dated Paris, 25 janvier 1963. Monica Avery de la Salle was a librarian of the Audubon Society, but later returned to France. A lovely coat-of-arms-style natural history bookplate of the Monica library mounted on the front pastedown. Contains a very large bibliography. A unique copy.
